River Nile is the longest river in the whole World extending 6650 kilometers long with its source Lake Victoria (Jinja) in Uganda. The Nile River interestingly drains through eleven (11) countries that include Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Egypt, Burundi, Kenya, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and South Sudan before finally emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.
- Main Tributaries on the Nile
River Nile has two main tributaries that include the Blue and White Nile with the latter being the longer, mainstream, and also the headwaters. The former is said to carry two-thirds of the Nile River’s water volume as well as the majority of the silt. River Nile is also surrounded by various geographical features that include forests, rock outcrops that have interestingly contributed to the stunning appearance of the Nile River.
- The White Nile
The White Nile, one of the main tributaries of the River Nile starts from Burundi while the Blue Nile begins from Ethiopia but these two beautiful Rivers later join to form the Nile River at Khartoum in Sudan. Millions of people depend on River Nile water with its largest consumers being Egypt.
- Murchison Falls
In Uganda, River Nile drains through some of the country’s magnificent tourist sites such as Murchison Falls National Park where it is known as the Victoria Nile. Several wildlife species such as hippos, Nile crocodiles, and Nile monitor lizards as well as bird species such as the African sacred ibis and Egyptian Goose are found in and around the Nile River.

River Nile is one of the few places in Uganda where you can cast lures with live baits to catch different bird species such as the Tilapia, Nile Perch, and Tigerfish among others. What even makes sport fishing on the Nile River more exciting is the fact that other interesting attractions can be encountered.
- Swimming
Swimming in River Nile is possible and interesting because there is no record of Bilharzia-infesting snails as well as dangerous wildlife species such as Hippos and Nile crocodiles in designated swimming spots.
Bungee jumping
The adventurous bungee jumps in the River Nile usually involve tourists jumping from a raised platform with a secure cord connected to your legs. This activity is actually not for the faint-hearted because you have to jump and touch the Nile River waters hence unforgettable experiences.
